On the 1910 Census of Kern Co., California index enumerated with Stotts, Garver A. Grant is listed as born in Iowa and age as 42. The census film was searched using 030 0025 0348 code from index card. The census was tinted dark red and blurry. Unable to locate census record. Volunteer at NARA stated yes, they were hard to read and the originals had been destroyed. This was on 20 May 2002 visit to NARA in Kansas City, MO. Film T1261, #79 F600 to F623. Frakes soundex is F622.
Death Certificate states occupation was well driller.
Obituary from Jefferson Co., Iowa researcher: Wed. Sept. 14, 1955 G. Grant Frakes, 87, d Sept. 6 Lancaster Calif. Buried there. Survived by one son Dwight of Los Angeles, two sisters, Mrs. Ann Roush, Davenport and Mrs. Myrtle Hogan, Fairfield; one brother James Frakes, Fairfield; two grandchildren. Preceded by wife, an infant daughter and 2 brothers.
Antelope Valley Ledger-Gazette, Antelope Valley, California, September 15, 1955, page 5: Funeral services were held on Sept. 10 for Grant Frakes, 87, in Mumaw Chapel, the Rev. Fred Cottriel of Assembly of God Church officiating. Mr. Frakes died on Sept. 6 at his home in Lancaster following a lingering illness. Interment was in Lancaster Cemetery in the family plot where he will rest beside his wife whose death preceded his by several years. Born in Fairfield, Jefferson Co, Iowa in March of 1868, Mr. Frakes has been a resident of Antelope Valley since 1912. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He is survived by a son, Dwight L. Frakes of Los Angeles, two grandchildren, Glenn and Beverly; a sister Mrs. Anna Raush of Davenport, Iowa; another sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hagan of Fairfield, Iowa and a brother and sister-in-law James and August Frakes, also of Fairfield.
