Lewis Dent Booth

Lewis Dent Booth, the oldest child of Robert and Mary Booth, was born 24 April 1840 in Chester District, South Carolina. In 1842 he moved with his family to Mississippi. On 27 March 1861, at the outbreak of the Civil War, Lewis enlisted in Company A, 9th Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers in the Confederate Army. He also served in the Corinth Rifles, 2nd Regiment, 4th Brigade. He continued to serve until the end of the war.

While in the service, in 1862, his father died at Corinth , and the family moved to Lowndes County, Mississippi. There Lewis met Frances Amanda Mayfield, daughter of John J. and Rachel Paulina (Dowdle) Mayfield, whom he married on 16 June 1867. Lewis was a farmer and landowner, but he was primarily a builder. He built roads, bridges, sawmills, gristmills, covered bridges and homes. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Masons. He served on the Board of Supervisors of Monroe County, Mississippi, from 1890 until 1895. Lewis died 30 August 1907 at Greenwood Springs in Monroe County, Mississippi.

There were seven (7) children born of the marriage.
