Joseph Thomas Sherer, born 8 April 1848, Bullock's Creek, York County, South Carolina. Enlisted into the Confederate Army in May 1864 as a private in Co. K, 4th Alabama Cavalry; captured between Montevallo and Randolph Station, Alabama about 1 March 1865 and was kept in a stockade at Selma for about 15 days; paroled in Montgomery, Alabama.
