Hugh Alfred Dennis

Dennis, 67, a former chemical and car salesman, died Saturday evening in the family home at 122 West 14th. He had been in ill health for seven years and had been critically ill the last few weeks. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Harvey Clark, pastor of St. Paul's English Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery.
Mr. Dennis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Dennis, was born on June 1, 1887, at Bassett. When he was a child, the family moved to a farm near Anselmo. It was there that he grew to manhood. He and Miss Neva Kirkpatrick were married on April 12, 1912, at Broken Bow. To them, one son was born. During this period of life, Mr. Dennis farmed near Anselmo and then became interested in the automobile business and the livestock commission business. The family home was in Anselmo and in Broken Bow. Mrs. Dennis died in May of 1931.
Mr. Dennis continued his residence in Custer County until 1944, when he came to Grand Island. During his residence here, he had traveled for a chemical company and had worked as a car salesman. He and Mrs. Sophia Pierpont were married on May 13, 1945, at Raton, N. M. They made their only home here.
Mr. Dennis is survived by his wife; one son, Lawrence Dennis, Portland, Ore.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Charles O'Connor, Portland, Ore., and one brother, Ora Dennis of Grand Island. Besides his first wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Pearl Dennis.
