Betty Jean Hadley

(11 Sep 1930 - 7 Feb 2014)

Posted at findagrave.com: Betty Jean Hadley, born Elizabeth Jean Headley, was the daughter of Clyde Oliver Headley and Sybil Laura Newman. Clyde later changed their surname to Hadley, as census takers often spelled the name. Children of Clyde and Sybil: Norman Hadley, Peter Paul, Pauline Cates, Bernice Olson, Margaret Dair, twins Gerald Hadley and Geraldine Schmidt, Betty Zolczynski, and Patricia Mills.

Prof. J. Walter Newman, Superintendent of Schools in Sarpy Co, Nebraska, was Betty's maternal grandfather. Her paternal grandfather, George Washington Headlee, rode with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show.

Her maternal great-grandfather, William Donaldson Rowles, was a Nebraska Legislator in the House and Senate. Both of her parents were royally descended! Yes, even back to Bible days.

Betty also descended from many saints: St. Margaret of Scotland and son St. David, King of Scots; St. Vladimir, Prince of Kiev, the famous icon painter; St. Ferdinand III, King of Castile; St. Elizabeth (Isabel) Queen of Portugal; St. Louis IX, King of France, St. Leopold III of Austria, and many more.

Betty Hadley married John Joseph Zolczynski on the California Holiday, Cinco de Mayo, 5th of May 1956 at Church of the Ascension in Los Angeles, California. Betty passed away in 2014 and her husband joined her in 2015 at age 93. They were the parents of nine children, four born in California: John Jr., Mary, Nicholas and Timothy; and five born in Wisconsin: Robert, Ann, Janet, Teresa and David.

Juneau County Star-Times, Juneau, Wisconsin, Wednesday, February 12, 2014: Betty J. Zolczynski, 83, of Lyndon Station, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Our House Assisted Living in Reedsburg.

Betty was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Clyde and Sybil (Newman) Hadley. She married John Zolczynski May 5, 1956, in Los Angeles, Calif.

"Wonderful Lady" is how one of her newest friends and fellow residents of Our House in Reedsburg referred to Betty. It sums up who Betty was. She took a caring attitude toward everyone who crossed her path. She wanted to know how she could help and she would always add those in need to her prayer list, give them food or candy, or some advice she thought important. She loved to cook and share food with others. She taught her children to cook and share as well. Above all, she loved God and zealously pursued ways to serve God. She taught her children the things she felt they need the most to get through this world and the next. Never did a day go by that she did not work hard for God and the people she loved. We will miss her, our great kind mother, grandmother, friend and wife.

Betty is survived by her husband, John; sons, John of Oakland, Calif., Nick of Lyndon Station, Tim of Wisconsin Dells, Bob of Lyndon Station and David of Modesto, Calif.; daughters, Mary Sein of Peach Tree City, Ga., Janet Ells of Phoenix, Ariz., and Teresa Wohlrab of Mauston; sisters, Pauline Cates of Redding, Calif., Margaret Dair and Geraldine Schmidt both of Grand Junction, Colo.; as well as her 14 grandchildren.
