Mary Eileen Warner

(13 Aug 1923 - 30 Jun 1996)

Posted at findagrave.com: Mary Eileen Cass was born to Leo and Esther Warner on August 13, 1923 in Cambridge, NE. She passed away June 30, 1996 at Phelps County Memorial Hospital in Holdrege, NE at the age of 73 years 10 months and 17 days.

Mary was the eldest of three children and grew up in the Wilsonville, NE area, graduating from Wilsonville High School in 1940. She took normal training in high school and after graduation taught for two years before marrying Dean Cass on February 14, 1942. They moved to a farm northeast of Beaver City after the marriage and later purchased a farm in 1947. They lived in rural Beaver City for most of their married lives rearing their five children there. In 1976 they purchased a home in Beaver City.

Mary was always a hard-working person, first on the farm as a new bride and parent and later as seamstress, baby-sitter, and school cook. In the mid-60's, she was hired to do clerical work for the Furnas County title Company. She later passed her test to be a registered abstracter and in 1972 purchased the business. She worked as an abstracter and title agent until she retired in 1993.

Mary was also very involved in her community. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce. She spent 12 years on the school board, was a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary, and was an active member of the Grace Brethren. She also touched the lives of many young people during the more than 10 years that she served as leader of the 4-H club that she organized.

As a parent Mary was the backbone of the family. She stressed strength of character and the benefits of hard work. It was her vision to see that all of her children go to college. The philosophy that she stressed was "People may be able to take some things away from you, but no one can take your education. " She finally realized that goal in 1993 when her fifth child graduated from college.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leo Warner, and her husband Dean.

Survivors include her mother Esther Warner, of Beaver City; three sons: Larry and wife Judy of Bloomington, MN, Jerry and wife Nancy of Idaho Falls, ID; and Alin of Winona Lake, IN; two daughters: Jeretta Tauriella and husband John of Exeter, NE; and Lori Moore and husband Jeff of Arapaho, NE; and six grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Norma Vise and husband Dale of Johnston, CO and a brother Harold (Bud) Warner of Arvada, CO, many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Grace Brethren Church in Beaver City on July 3, 1996, with Rev. Bob Schaffer conducting the service.
