Posted at findagrave.com: Kentucky New Era, Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016---Dr. Dennis Swain, 70, Hopkinsville, died at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 5, 2016, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center following a long illness. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Southside Church of Christ with Terry Alan Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Hughart, Beard and Giles Funeral Home. A native of Franklin County, Ill., he was born March 18, 1945, the son of the late Francis and Lawanda Swain.
He was a 1963 graduate of Hopkinsville High School, a 1966 graduate of Lipscomb University and received his doctorate in dentistry from the University of Tennessee in 1970. He joined the U.S. Air Force, having served in Vietnam. He practiced dentistry until 2007, having worked in Hopkinsville and at Fort Campbell. He was a charter member of Southside Church of Christ, where he was a deacon and an elder. He was a member and past president of the Hopkinsville Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of West Central Dental Society and was a member of VFW Post 1913. Survivors include his wife, Susan Swain; his son, Drew Swain, Houston; his daughter, Mary Lynn (Will) Staggs, Nashville; his sister, Tammy Swain (Ed) Staley, Hopkinsville; and three grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Southside Church of Christ, 529 Country Club Lane, Hopkinsville, KY 42240 or to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
