Mount Vernon Register, Mount Vernon, Illinois, Saturday, November 19, 1977, Page 4, Col. 8: Johnie Johnston, 82, of Whittington, died at his home Friday night. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Johnston was born in Franklin County Oct. 1, 1895, the son of John and Sarah (Whitlow) Johnston. On Oct. 25, 1917, he was married to Jennie Brown, who survives. He was a member of the Hazel Dell Free Will Baptist Church in Sesser. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Whittington. The Rev. Dwight Dame will officiate and burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Johnston is survived by his wife, three sons, Noble Johnston of Park Forest, Larry Johnston of Crete, and Lloyd Johnston of Royalton; one daughter, Mrs. Aleen Hancock of Benton; 20 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Bertie Taylor of Granite city. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Olen Lee Johnston.
