By 1940 he was married to Goldie Lee. He lived in Burlington, IA from 1925 until his death. He was a grocery truck driver most of this time. In 1940 they lived at 511 Elm Street and rented their home for $20 a month.

Burlington Hawk Eye Gazette, Burlington, Iowa, Thursday, October 22, 1958, Page 34, Col. 4: Walter R. Enke, 65, of 301 S. Fifth, was fatally stricken at 7:55 a.m. Thursday while walking on Valley street at Alley 5, near the police station. Enke, who worked at Riepe-Peterson, reportedly fell to the sidewalk. He was taken to Burlington hospital by police and was pronounced dead on arrival.

He was employed for 12 years by ISU, and quit because of a heart ailment. Born May 17 [19], 1893 at Brock, Mo., he was the son of F. M. and Cora Wright Enke. He was married Dec. 26, 1936, at Kahoka, Mo., to Goldie Lee. Enke was a member of First Methodist church.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Norman Grau, Greenville, Miss.; three grandchildren, and a brother, Lee R. Enke, Burlington. The body is at Wallen's chapel and arrangements are pending.
