Phyllis Mae McCarley

(24 Mar 1936 - 4 Jun 2009)

Phyllis Mae (McCarley) Sanford went home to be with the Lord (and join her beloved husband) on Thursday, June 4, 2009. She was born on March 24, 1936, to Horace and Frances McCarley in Stayton, Oregon. On May 22, 1953, she married Eugene Stanley "Jim" Sanford, and later that day she graduated from high school. She and Jim lived in the Big Sandy area until 1959 when they moved their family to Polson.

Mrs. Sanford worked for 10 years at the driver's licensing department and then for many years at the Lake County Treasurer's office until the mid-80s, when she was forced to retire due to health problems. Mrs. Sanford was still able to enjoy some traveling and camping until about six years ago when her health became so poor she was not able to get out of the house much. Even though she suffered greatly in her body, her hope was in Jesus, knowing that some day he would take her home and she would be free from pain and sickness. Until the end, she never lost her sense of humor and her quick wit.

Mrs. Sanford was preceded in death by her husband Jim (only a few short weeks before her death), her brother Clifford (Cork) McCarley, her sister Nadene (McCarley) Ammons and her grandson Jack Sanford.

Mrs. Sanford was survived by her son Stan Sanford; her daughter Carla Buys; her son-in-law Ray Buys; a brother Horace McCarley Jr. (and spouse Alice); a sister Roxie (McCarley) Antilla (and spouse George); grandsons Jon Buys (and spouse Rhonda), Harlan Sanford, Tyler Sanford, Brad Buys; and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held for both Phylis and Jim, together, the summer of 2009. Shrider-Thompson Funeral and Cremation Services of Ronan assisted with arrangements.
