The Quad-City Times, Davenport, Iowa, Saturday, May 31, 2014: ROCK ISLAND - E. Louise Isenberger, 87, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014, in her home, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. *Burial is in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, or the charity of your choice.
Louise Hanshaw was born during a snowstorm on Jan. 20, 1927, in Rock Island. Delivered by her father, Christian, she was the daughter of Christian and Fredricka Ebert Hanshaw. She married Arnold W. Isenberger on July 26, 1947, in Moline; they have been married for 67 years. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1945. Louise worked as a group chief operator at Illinois Bell Telephone Co./AT&T for 30 years and then 31 years at H&R Block.
Louise was the consummate volunteer. She assisted with the Talking Books Center of Illinois, repairing playback machines for the blind and physically disabled. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America for 47 years, where she participated in many activities, including making funnel cakes for festivals, marching in the Labor Day parade, helping at the Arrowhead Ranch Round-Up, the First Day Fund and Shoes for Needy School Kids. Louise also volunteered at the switchboard of the John Deere Classic for 35 years. She was inducted into the John Deere Classic Hall of Fame in 2007. Louise served two terms on the board of directors at Friendship Manor and had served as president of the Silver Cross Circle of King's Daughters and City Union. She was a lifelong member of South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold; daughters, Karen (Ken) Meyer and Diane (Bob) Massey; grandchildren, Jon (Kelly) Behrends, Matt (Kris) Massey, Josh (Erin) Massey, Jen (Daniel) Zukerman and Becky (Nick) Dennis; five great-grandchildren; and her brother, Chris (Jeanele) Hanshaw. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Fred and Henry Hanshaw; sister, Freda Rosemiller; and two grandchildren, Luke and Rachael Massey.
