Southern Illinoisan, Carbondale, Illinois, Tuesday, April 26, 1994: Cobden---Mr. Charles E. Childers, 77, of Route 2, Cobden, was born Dec. 4, 1916, at Grand Tower, Ill., the son of Edward and Sarah (Ellis) Childers. He died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, April 24, 1994, at his home near Cobden. He was married to Lucille Kirkpatrick on March 18, 1940, at Jackson, Mo. Mr. Childers is survived by his wife, Lucille, of Cobden; one daughter, Sue Hartline of Ware; two sons, Carl Childers of Cobden and John Childers of Murphysboro; one sister, Helen Trammel of Leavenworth, Kan.; eight grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; other relatives; and many friends. He was preceded in death by three children, four brothers and one sister. He was a Baptist, and was a retired carpenter from the Illinois Central Railroad after 32 years. Funeral services for Mr. Charles E. Childers will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 1994, at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Cliff Waller officiating. Interment will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
