Marengo Pioneer Republican, Marengo, Iowa, December 9, 1971: Veteran Of WW I And II, W. Glass Dies. A veteran of both World War I and II Walter E. Glass, 73, died at Marengo Memorial hospital at 4:30 a.m. Dec. 7, 1971. He had suffered a stroke last week. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, Dec. 9, at Harrison Funeral home with the Rev. Duane O'Tool, First Methodist church, officiating. Mrs. Jerry Goad organist, played "Abide With Me" and "In the Garden". Pallbearers were I. R. Neitzel, Archie Sparrowgrove, Carl Schafbuch, Merlyn Berstler, Harold Weidemeir and Alex Burns with burial in Marengo cemetery. The son of Robert and Oda Elam Glass the deceased was born in Sherman, Kan. Oct. 28, 1898. He serviced in WW I from 1917 to 1919 and later served in WW II. He had been an employee of Rock Island railroad. A long time resident of Marengo he married Ethel Lewis Apr. 5, 1958. He died in 1970. There were also two prior marriages. Survivors include two step-daughters, Mrs. George Daugherty and Mrs. Orrin Gleason, Marengo; and one step-son, Wilbur Lewis, Lowell, Mich.
