Herald-Journal, Spartanburg, South Carolina, Friday, November 16, 2007: Spartanburg--- Leon "Sandy" Sandifer Taylor, 71, of 342 Fairlane Drive, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at his home. Born March 21, 1936, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Chester Russell and Christine Pressley Taylor. A 1954 graduate of Spartanburg High School and a 1958 graduate of Wofford College, he was an athletic scholar in football and a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, attended Army Intelligence School at Fort Hollabard, MD, and served on the General Staff of the 8th Army Group in Korea. He was employed with Milliken and Company for 15 years in New York City, Cleveland, OH, and Spartanburg in sales, marketing, and management. In 1976 he and his wife founded Taylor Enterprises, Inc. He was a member of the Texaco Advisory Council and served as President of that organization. Sandy's love for children and sports led him to coach football for the Hillbrook Athletic Association. He also coached baseball, soccer, and basketball. He was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church where he taught Sunday School and was instrumental in bringing boy's basketball to eastside churches so they could be a part of the YMCA league. He was a charter member of the Carolina Country Club and a member of the Piedmont Club. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Julia "Jill" Howard Taylor; children, William Russell Taylor of Spartanburg, Mark Howard Taylor of Luling, LA, and Eric Sandifer and Tiffany Seeber Taylor of Roebuck; grandchildren, Luke Sandifer, Paige Pressley, and Kate Brooking Taylor of Roebuck; and a sister, Martha T. Dunagin of Statesboro, GA. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, November 16, 2007, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. A service in praise and thanksgiving for the life of Sandy will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 17, 2007, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 400 Dupre Drive, conducted by the Rev. Dr. George N. Gray, Jr. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Parish Hall. A private family interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Carolina Autism Society, 806 12th Street, West Columbia, SC 29169-6142; to the Wofford College Terrier Club, Athletic Scholarship Fund, 429 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303; to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, St. Barnabus Youth Fund, 400 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307; or to SRMC Hospice Special Needs Fund, 120 Heywood Avenue, Suite 300, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
