Individual Details
Mary Elizabeth Kirkpatrick
(20 Mar 1855 - 31 Jul 1934)
Mary Elizabeth Kirkpatrick was born 20 March 1855, at Walnut Grove, Illinois. Family tradition states this was in Edgar County on the Indiana border. There is however, no Walnut Grove, which is much closer to the territory which we associate with this family. Moreover, Mary is found living with her parents in the 1860 census of Lee County, just a few miles from the town of Walnut. While it is impossible to say with certainty where Mary was born, it was probably McDonough County (most likely) or Lee County. Despite family tradition, it is unlikely that she was born in Edgar County. Mary died 31 July 1934, at Holdrege, Phelps County, Nebraska. She married 28 February 1875, in Durham, Hancock County, Illinois, to John Wesley Moyer, who was born 12 May 1850 in Burlington, Iowa, and died 7 February 1932 in Holdrege, Nebraska. The Moyers homesteaded in Hitchcock County, Nebraska, in 1886, going probably with Mary's brother William and his family. In 1896, they moved to Doniphan County, Kansas, and a few years later to Holdrege, Phelps County, Nebraska.
There were ten children born of the marriage.
