Southern Illinoisan, Carbondale, Illinois, Sunday, February 25, 1996: Du Quoin---Edgar Sims, 77, died at 3:55 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 1996, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Revs. Bill C. Clark and Robert L. Dailey officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Elks Crippled Childrens Fund or the donor's choice and will be accepted at the funeral home. Mr. Sims was in management with the Ford dealership. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Du Quoin, the Du Quoin Elks Lodge, where he was past Exalted Ruler and life member, and the Perry County Country Club. He was an Army and Air Force veteran of World War II. He was born on July 31, 1918 in Murphysboro, to Edgar and Birdie (Sulcer) Sims. He married Ruth Biby Gladson on Aug. 14, 1969 in Du Quoin. Survivors include his wife, Ruth B. Sims of Du Quoin; two daughters, Judy Sheehan of Du Quoin and Jane Bower of Murphysboro; two stepdaughters, Linda Gladson of Carbondale and Mary Jane Graul of Alexandria, Va.; one brother, Marion Sims of Murphysboro; one sister, Ethel Lipe of Murphysboro; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ham and Earl and one brother and one sister in infancy.
