The Victoria Advocate, Victoria, Texas, Tuesday, November 20, 2001: Carl Todd VanWay Jr., 74, of Victoria, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2001. Carl was born September 9, 1927 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Carl Todd VanWay and Gertrude West VanWay. He was a graduate of Texas A&M University, a U.S. Army veteran, a stockbroker, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Victoria. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James William VanWay, and his first wife Karel Freeman VanWay. Carl is survived by his wife, Suanne Moses VanWay of Victoria; sons Carlton Freeman VanWay and wife Cindy of Dinero, and Todd VanWay and wife Donna of Dinero; daughters, Cindy Roebuck Schmidt and husband Tom of Victoria, Joyce VanWay of Austin, and Amy VanWay Watts and husband Jason of Pflugerville. Carl has six grandchildren, David Schmidt of Austin, Michael Schmidt of College Station, Nicholas VanWay of Dinero, and Jamie Watts, Peyton Watts, and Hayden Watts of Pflugerville. Pallbearers will be John Crews, J.W. McCauley, Scott Murray, Jody Norris, Dick Scheibelhut, and Britt Sides. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Bednorz, A.C. Brown, Benson Catchings, Turney Crawford, Charles Gladden, Bobby Hoffmann, Les Meis, Gene Migura, Spec Phillips, David Scott, Holley Stephenson, and Spec Phillips' Men's Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Victoria, with the Reverend Jim Shamburger officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home, Victoria, 361-578-3535. Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church of Victoria or the American Heart Association.
