Veron Estes Kaiser

(30 May 1892 - 21 Jun 1947)

Posted at findagrave.com: Veron was a U.S. National Park Service employee for the maintenance division at Yellowstone National Park during the summer of 1947. On June 21 a freak summer snow storm had stranded a number of motorist on the Beartooth Scenic Highway near Beartooth Pass and the Wyoming-Montana state line. The National Park Service was responsible for plowing that high mountain altitude road even though it was outside of the park's boundary. Veron and two other employees were sent to rescue those caught in the storm and to remove snow. When night fell they chose to remain near the pass and spend the night in a government pickup truck. Unknown to them, while they slept the truck's exhaust system was clogged by drifting snow and all three men died from the carbon monoxide fumes. They are listed among National Park Service employees who have died in the line of duty.
