Berea, Ky.---A Madison County couple died in an early morning fire Saturday in their mobile home at Kingston on Berea Route 2. Their three children escaped injury. The victims were identified as Rodney Earl Radford, 30, and his wife, Pati Jo Radford, 27. Deputy Corner Embry Curry said both died from asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation. Their bodies were badly burned. The youngsters were spending the night at the home of their grandparents nearby. The Madison county Fire Department was called to the scene but the dwelling was engulfed in flames when they arrived. A passing motorist had notified State Police of the fire as he was traveling on the Drayfus Road near Kingston about 1:30 a.m. Cause of the fire has not been determined. Radford was a native of Madison County and was manager of Richmond Mobile Homes. He was a member of Hays Fork Baptist Church. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Radford, Berea Route 2; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Henry Click and two sisters. Mrs. Radford, a native of Carmichael, Calif., was a bookkeeper for White Hall Mobile Homes. Her survivors also include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Engellanner, Carmichael, Calif., a brother and sister. Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Wray Funeral Home here. Burial will be in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today.
