Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of 58 years; three sons, James (Elaine) Quaid of Cedar Rapids, John (Denise) Quaid of Gulfport, Miss., and Jeff (Tish) Quaid of Wichita, Kan.; two daughters, Cathryn (Tom) Soppe of Anamosa and Carolyn Bush of Hiawatha; a sister, Arlene Fiala of Cedar Rapids; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a very good friend, James "Howdy" Anderson of Spooner, Wis., who was a frequent visitor to Wayne and Ruth.

Wayne was born April 27, 1925, in rural Ryan, to Joseph and Anna Meighan Quaid, the youngest of six children. He married Ruth Elliott on Dec. 28, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. Wayne was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving two of his three years in the South Pacific. After the war he was

in the Quaid family lumber and construction business.

In 1968, a back injury forced him to change careers when he joined Killian's as a salesman in home furnishings. He remained with the store until it closed, retiring in 1982.

Wayne had a great fondness for nature, especially birds and animals. He liked to tent camp and trout fish - alone or with his family. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards and golf. He and Ruth had a beautiful life together, with lots of laughter, some tears, and the joys of raising a family. Wayne was a member of VFW Post 788 and American Legion Post 5.

May God find Wayne a good trout stream for his favorite sport.
