Austin American-Statesman, Austin, Texas, Monday, February 9, 1998: Charles William Smith, age 84, of Austin, died Saturday, February 7, 1998. Mr. Smith graduated from The University of Texas and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in England and Germany. He was an avid boater and was active in the Austin Power Squadron. He began work in the insurance industry in 1939; was assistant manager of the Texas Insurance Advisory Association; manager of the Texas Catastrophe Property Association; and retired from the insurance industry on July 26, 1981. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Thelma A. Smith of Austin; sister, Mary Frenzel of Robstown; a niece, great-niece, great-nephew, great-great-niece and great-great-nephew, all of Robstown and Corpus Christi, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, February 9, 1998, in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday in the Coleman Cemetery, Coleman, Texas.
