Molancey Butcher

From Grandma Flack's Scrapbook published by McDonough County Genealogical Society, PO Box 202, Macomb, Illinois 61455, in 2001: The following is the obituary of Mrs. Molancey Kirkpatrick, who for many years was a resident of this vicinity and has many friends among our older people: Molancy, daughter of Mahun and Rebecca Butcher, was born in Licking county, Ohio, July 30, 1839, and died at her home in Macomb, Ill., Oct. 20, 1926 after an illness of short duration. Deceased was united in marriage in Boone County Ind., to James J. Allen Sept. 6, 1857, who died Nov. 12, 1866. To this union five children were born, N. Ward Allen of Tonkawa, Okla., and Mary Alice Naylor of Lincoln, Neb., Albert E., Rhoda May and Jeannette Bell, the latter three being deceased. She was again married July 31, 1879, to Thomas Newton Kirkpatrick, who died March 21, 1896, leaving his widow and one son, Arthur A. a youth of 14 years to whom she was greatly devoted, having him with her continually until her death also his wife, Edith, who cared for her for several years with loving devotion. The following brothers and sisters survive: Preston Butcher of Sedan, Kan.; William and Luther Butcher and Mrs. Mary Kline of Macomb; John Bowman and Walter Butcher having preceded her in death.

A large number of nieces and nephews, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren are left to mourn her departure. She was a woman of beautiful Christian character, having united with the Christian church when very young and remained a loyal member of the church until a few years ago, when, after moving to Macomb she transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian church of this city. Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. T. Rodgers, at the First Presbyterian church at 2:30 Friday, Oct. 22. Interment in Camp Creek cemetery near where she lived the greater part of her life.
