Mary Amelia Manning was born in Canada March 8, 1849. In 1853 she came with her parents to Burr Oak. There she married Edward Stevens, who died in 1902. In 1879 the family moved to Freeport, where they lived until the father's death. Since then Mrs. Stevens made her home with a married daughter living near Ossian. Seven children were born, those surviving are: Oren of Cresco, Mrs. Clarence Miller of Dubuque, Luman of Eureka, Ca., Lewis of Bozeman, Mont., Mrs. Emmet Steven of near Ossian, Mrs. Edward Youmansof Decorah. There are also forty grandchilden and sixteen great-grandchildren.
