Charles Albert Gillham

Charles Gillham was born circa 1830-31 in Fayette County, Illinois. On 21 December 1854 he married Martha M. Hall in Glasgow, Jefferson County, Iowa. after their marriage they moved to Leon in Decatur County, Iowa. On 6 July 1861, Charles enlisted in Company D, 4th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. While in the service he was taken ill and was left in a hospital in Rolla, Missouri, while his regiment took part in the battle of Pea Ridge in Arkansas. He was discharged on 18 August 1862. He never fully recovered from his illness contracted in the military service and died of tuberculosis on 11 Aug 1883. Martha, his wife died on 24 December 1909.
Charles and Martha had three children.
