Francis drowned in Kern River near Taft, Calif. He was married and had two small children. His wife remarried and her husband adopted the children and the family lost track of them.

Beck, Phoenix musician, was on a rock 80 feet from shore today in the Kern river rapids near Democrat hot Springs. Beck was drowned yesterday while picnicking. He swam across the swollen river, and, exhausted, was carried downstream as he tried to return to his party. Sheriff's officers were trying to recover the body today.
