Sylvester C. Tubbs

Arnold Sentinel, Arnold, Nebraska, Thursday, January 7, 1932, Page 4, Col. 4: Tubbs. Sylvester G. Tubbs, son of L. C. and Caroline Tubbs was born Dec. 3, 1851, in Ulster county, N. Y., where he grew to young manhood, later going to New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut, and later to Kansas, where he was united in marriage to Mrs. Anna Larem in Pottawattomie county, July 8, 1875. They came to Nebraska in 1880, settling on a homestead northwest of Arnold, on what is now known as the McDowell farm. Mrs. Tubbs passed away in March, 1900.
Mr. Tubbs was ordained and entered the ministry in 188; and remained until 1904, when failing health made it necessary for him to retire; when was quite a trial for him. Some of the charges he served were Arnold, Ord circuit, Walnut Grove and Haven Chapel.
On July 8, 1901, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Orpha Gregory. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Leta Marsh and Mrs. Velma Hunt.
After his retirement from the ministry the family removed to Arnold where they resided until 1917, when they went to Gothenburg, where they have since resided. Mr. Tubbs passed away January 2, 1932 at the age of 80 years. He leaves to mourn his loss his devoted wife, who so faithfully cared for hin during his suffering in his last years. His two daughters, Mrs. Leota Marsh and Mrs. Velma Hunt, his two stepsons, Mr. Earl Gregory and Mr. Lawrence Gregory; nine [grand] children and a nephew, Albert Tubbs, besides other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at one o'clock Monday afternoon at the Methodist church in Gothenburg, conducted by Rev. Wm. Kilburn, and interment was made in the Arnold cemetery.
