Burlington Gazette, Burlington, Iowa, April 29, 1918, Page 10, Co. 5: John J. Crowder. Passed away at Home Here Early This Morning After Illness of Nine Months. John J. Crowder, a patternmaker at the Murray Iron Works, died at his home, No. 2015 Bertach avenue, this morning at 4:30 o'clock of dropsy and heart trouble, following an illness of nine months. Mr. Crowder was born in this city May 5, 1877, and had lived here practically his entire life. He had been employed at the Murray for several years, and before that worked for the Chittenden & Eastman Co. He possessed a host of friends here, and his death will be deeply regretted by all of them. His marriage to Amelia Mewes took place here October 20, 1904. Mrs. Crowder survives with seven children. Mr. Crowder also is survived by his father, who lives in Oklahoma, a brother in Ft. Madison and three sisters, Mrs. Martin Wiedeman and Mrs. Bert Hene of Burlington and Mrs. William Rogers of Oklahoma. The decedent was a member of the A.O.U.W. The funeral will be held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with interment in Aspen Grove cemetery.
