Erastus Lofton Gillham was born 14 July 1823, in Scott County, Illinois, and died 23 October 1894. He married in 1848, Elizabeth Beacraft, who was born 20 October 1827 and died 24 May 1911. They are both buried in the Gillham Cemetery near Winchester, Illinois. Erastus was in the Mexican War. He enlisted in the Civil War and was elected Captain of Company F of the 120th Volunteer Illinois Infantry. He resigned his commission in 1864. He farmed in the North part of Scott County, Illinois, and built a brick home there that was still standing in 1965.
