The Dallas Morning News, Dallas, Texas, Wednesday, May 28, 2008: Kirkpatrick, Lily Gertrude Garrett went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 26, 2008. Born in Walker County, Texas, March 11, 1909, to Myrtle Alliene Hendrix and George Daniel Garrett, Lily grew up in Somerville, Texas, with her loving family of three brothers and five sisters. Lily graduated from Somerville High School and San Houston State University. She also attended Southwest Texas State University at San Marcos. She was a gifted teacher for sixty years who shared her wisdom and love with her students, beginning as the only teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Chappell Hill, Texas. On May 24, 1934, at Chapman Ranch, Texas, she married D.M. "Kirk" Kirkpatrick and spent the next 66 years sharing her life, love and laughter with him. She and Kirk lived in Port Arthur, Corpus Christ, Garland and Dallas, where she taught children and adults in Sunday School at the First Baptist Churches in those cities and then at Wilshire Baptist Church for many years. She was a member of Wilshire's first senior choir and a member of Dallas Women's Forum. She was an accomplished seamstress, painter and party-planner, played the piano and organ by ear, and enjoyed writing poetry on occasion. Lily was a wise, elegant, nurturing woman who was dedicated to the Lord. She truly lived out her deep faith in Christ before all those who knew her. Her Christian example is cherished by her family and friends, including her daughter Joanne K. Niemann, her grandchildren, John Karl Niemann, George Andrew Niemann and wife Pamela Corrigan Niemann, Laura Anne Hatch and husband Gregory Alan Hatch. Lily's great-grandchildren are John Gregory Hatch, Elizabeth Anne Hatch and Lily Grace Niemann. She is survived by two sisters, Jewel Blanchard of Webster, Texas and Norma Babione of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as sister-in-law, Mozelle Kirkpatrick of Chapman Ranch, Texas. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Lily is preceded in death and reunited in our Lord's presence with her husband Kirk, her mother, father, sisters, Mary Martin, Mozelle Behannon, Alliene Lindsey, and brothers Clyde, Melvin, and Lloyd Daniel Garrett.
