Bowne, 64, a former Central Ferry Store operator who once served as deputy assessor of Garfield County. Bowne had resided in Spokane since 1960 and died there in the Deaconess Hospital April 16. He had been in failing health for several years. The services were from the Richardson Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Neal of the Pomeroy First Christian Church officiating. Burial was in the Pomeroy City Cemetery.
Bowne was born in Pomeroy March 31, 1907, the son of Thomas A. and Cora Bowne, and attended local schools. He and Helen Pierce were married in Pomeroy Oct. 29, 1934. They operated the Central Ferry Store on the Snake River in Garfield County for several years before moving to Pomeroy. From 1957 to 1960 Bowne served as deputy assessor under Assessors Rose Schneckloth and Floyd Koberstein. After moving to Spokane he was employed by the Washington State Tax Commission. Bowne was a charter member of the Pomeroy Eagles Lodge and also belonged to the Elks Lodge in Lewiston.
Survivors include his widow Helen at their home at 2404 W. Cleveland St. in Spokane; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Kaye) Ryan, Auburn; two grandchildren, Kellie and DeNae Ryan, Auburn; four sisters, Mrs. Pearl Coates, Los Angeles; Mrs. Ruth Delbridge, Alameda, Calif.; Mrs. Ethel Spenser, Portland; and Mrs. Cecil Tompkins, Seattle.
