Broughton, 95, at the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Mr. Broughton was born June 30, 1914 in Hico, LA to Claude and Nola Broughton. He entered into rest Monday, Sept. 28th at Homer Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mr. Broughton was a driller in the oilfield for twenty years and then was in the hay business while he and his wife were owners and operators of the Purple Cow for 20 years. Mr. Broughton was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 68 years, Edna Kirkpatrick Broughton; one son, Barry Lynn Broughton; and 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by 3 sons, Ernest Broughton of Bremen, GA, Ronnie Broughton and wife, Glenda of Minden and John Randall Broughton of Homer; daughter, Lawana June Weaver of Minden; 2 sisters, Sybil Duxbury and Marjorie Winget, both of Shreveport; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Scott Broughton, Mark Broughton, Mark Shedd, Jason Broughton, Clint Broughton, David Weaver, Colin Fountain and Ethan Powell. For friends considering memorials honoring Mr. Broughton, his family suggests St. Jude.
