Barbara Mary Phelps
(3 Apr 1928 - 29 Mar 2006)
Sun Advocate, Price, Utah, April 7, 2006: Salt Lake/Helpher---Barbara Mary Jolley passed away March 29, 2006 at her home. She was born April 3, 1928 to Elizabeth and Alfred Phelps and raised in Spring Canyon. Barbara married Guy Jolley and they moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where she worked for CAL Ranch Farm Supply as an office manager for many years. Upon retirement, she moved back to Salt Lake City. As a girl, she moved to Helper and attended Carbon High School, where she was a member of the band's drum section. She was also an avid bowler and played for Carbon Coal. She moved to Salt Lake and worked as an accountant for Tital Steel. Barbara enjoyed many fun days with her family and friends and took several trips with her brother, Bill, and sister, Dana. She took up painting and filling many canvases with her beautiful visions of lighthouses and forest scenes. She was a great lover of classical music and attended many Utah Symphony performances. She was a true Utes fan and held football season tickets for several years and loved her end zone seats. She eventually relocated to Seattle, Wash., to be with her niece, Pamela (Mark) and great-nephews, Erron and Braxton. She loved being in Seattle with her family. She became an avid hockey fan attending the games of her "favorite boy" Braxton as he participated in junior hockey. She loved the arboretum and exploring the northwest. Her favorite time of year was during the spring where she faithfully made the journey to the Tulip festival. Barbara is survived by brother, Bill (Kathie); sisters-in-law, Betty and Terri; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by husband; parents; brothers, Clark (Bethea), Oliver, Jimmy and Walker; sisters, Lola (Dave), Irene (Fred), Betrice (Theo) and Dana. We are grateful for the memories she shared of her wonderful family and of the fun times she had growing up. Services will be Friday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church, 3015 East Creek Road. Rosary vigil will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m., at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E.10600 South, Sandy. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens. Barbara was a breast cancer survivor and asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
