Rachel Amanda Winans
(11 Apr 1840 - 10 Jan 1907)
Nashua Reporter, Nashua, Iowa, Thursday, January 17, 1907, Page 5, Col. 4: Mrs. Warren Jones passed away at her home in this city at 8:30 o'clock Thursday morning after an illness of less than one week. She was stricken with paralysis on the Sunday previous to her death, and without regaining consciousness sufficiently to recognize her loved ones, she gradually failed ;until she closed her eyes in eternal sleep.
Rachael Amanda Winans was born in Trumbull county, Ohio, April 11, 1840, and at the time of her death was 66 years, 6 months and 30 days of age. In 1855, she came to Green county, Wis., and on June 1, 1856, she was married to Mr. Warren Jones. Two years later they came to Nashua and settled upon a farm near Plainfield where they lived for ten years. They then moved to town where the deceased resided until her demise. She is survived by the husband and three children, Ellsworth of Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. John Tracy and William of this city. Four children have preceded her to the better land.
Mrs. Jones was a woman who was well liked in this community. She was a good neighbor and a friend to all. In her home she was a loving and patient wife and mother, and she will be sadly missed by those who are dearest to her, especially by the one whose companion she had been for over fifty years.
The funeral was held at the home at 2 p.m. Sunday, Rev. Smith officiating and the remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. The services were under the charge of the Nashua Chapter of the Eastern Star and they remains were accompanied to their last resting place by the member of this order and the Relief Corps, of which deceased was also an honored member.
