From Find-A-Grave.com: Marlin E. Gherke, age 78, died on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at Belmont Nursing Home in Madison. He was born on October 7, 1922 in Sun Prairie and was the son of Emil and Dixie Gherke. He married Evelyn Kwapnioski on November 22, 1944 in Omaha, NE. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 333, the Disabled American Veterans and Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Survivors include his four children; Marlene (Ron Hilger) Maly of Sun Prairie, Roy (Cheryl) Gherke of Sun Prairie, Ron (Karla Haarklau) Gherke of DeForest, and Kevin (Shelly) Gherke of Sun Prairie; and seven grandchildren, Lisa Maly, Jason and Craig Gherke, Shawn and Corey Gherke, Kyle and Kollin Gherke. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and infant twins, Judy and Marlin. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie, with Pastor Luke C. Were officiating. Burial will be held at Sun Prairie Memory Garden Cemetery, where the American Legion will hold graveside military rites. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his name.
