Clarence Wilbur Benitz, asleep in Jesus, on Wed., Sept. 20, 2006. Beloved husband of 62 years of Mary Elizabeth (Toenjes) Benitz; father of Wayne Allen (Vonnie) and James Martin (Diane) Benitz and Marie Elizabeth (William) Long. He has 5 grandchildren, Stephen Mark (Shelby) and James Michael (Angela) Benitz, Julia Elizabeth Boudreau, David William Long and Megan Elizabeth (John) Dallman and 1 great-granddaughter, Emily Marie Benitz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth Benitz, brother Milton, sister-in-law Nellie, brother-in-law Robert Shields and brother-in-law Oscar Anderson; he is survived by his sister Dorothy (Benitz) Anderson, numerous nieces and nephews. Clarence joined Hope Lutheran Church in St. Louis where he was active in the Scouting Program and was on the School Board for several years. For his work in the Scouting Program, he was presented the Silver Beaver Award. He also served as president of the Association of Lutheran Scouters and was honored with the Lamb Award.
Clarence served in the Army Airforce during World War II from 1942 til 1945. He was employed by Prairie Farms Dairy as Plant Manager at the St. Louis plant and as Plant Superintendent at the Granite City plant. He retired from Prairie Farms Dairy in 1988. He had been in the dairy business for almost 50 years. He moved to St. Louis County and was active in Christ Memorial Lutheran Church. He was a square dancer with the Merry Mixer Square Dance Club. He will be missed by many.
