Amanda Ellen Bray

Fairfield Daily Ledger, Fairfield, Iowa, March 29, 1939, Page 5, Col. 4: Amanda Ellen, daughter of Jerry and Tempy Bray was born October 29, 1855 near Veo, Iowa and departed this life at her home in Fairfield, Iowa March 20, 1939 at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 20 days. On May 2, 1878 she was united in marriage to William E. Trail, where they settled on a farm near Veo, Iowa until November 1918 when they moved to Fairfield where she spent her remaining days. To this union eight children were born. The surviving are: Mrs. T. C. Whittington, Mrs. Otis Anderson, Mrs. C. A. Baker, Mr. W. L. Trail, Mrs. B. C. Day, Mrs. A. L. McIntire. two children Mrs. J. A. Pardon and George Trail and her husband preceded her in death. Fifteen grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Albert and George, also one sister, Mrs. James Rice all of Richland, Iowa and other relatives and friends remain to mourn her passing. On December 31, 1929 she was married to C. L. Staats of Lacede, Mo., who passed away August 9, 1931. She was a life-time member of the Howard Grove Baptist church. All that medical care and loving hands could do for her was one with the hope that she might be spared. She was a lover of her home, a true wife and loving mother and a kind neighbor and friend. No higher tribute could be paid her than she was a wonderful mother. After a long useful life she passed away as she lived honored and loved by all. Funeral services were held from the Hoskins funeral home Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. S. P. Williamson, pastor of the First Christian church. The hymns were sung to Mrs. Pearl Wyckoff, accompanied by Miss Arlene Chalupa. Pallbearers were: Harlan Gossick, Frank Terrill, Kirt Rogers, Charles Lynn, Earl Kingsbury and Perry Bates. The remains were interred by her husband in Evergreen cemetery.
