Jacob Epler

Daily Illinois State Register, Springfield, Illinois, Tuesday, August 26, 1890, Page 5, Col. 2: Jacob Epler died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1890, at 6:30 o'clock a.m. in Virginia, Ills., in his 88th year. He was born in Clark county, Ind., Feb. 19, 1803, and was a son of Abram Epler, who came from Lancaster county, Pa., in 1798 and settled near the falls of the Ohio river. Mr. Epler was married to Mary Beggs, daughter of Capt. Chas. Beggs, in the year 1827, and was the father of nine children, five of whom, two sons and three daughter, survive. In 1839 he removed with his family from Indiana to Illinois, settling in Cass county, near Virginia, where he continued to reside until 1850, when he removed to Sangamon county and became the founder and proprietor of the beautiful village of Pleasant Plains. For the last few months he has resided in Virginia, Cass county, where he died as above stated. In September, 1886, he was again married, this time to Julia J. Ater, who survives him. Jacob Epler lived a long and useful life, loved and esteemed by all, and died, after his work was finished, of the infirmities of age. His funeral will be at the church in Pleasant Plaines at 9:30 a.m. to-day, and his remains will find interment in the cemetery there.
