New London, Ia., Dec. 2---Mrs. Frank Portlock died at her home in this city Saturday evening, Nov. 30, after an illness of long duration. Miss Lucretia Constance Hawkins was born near Iowa City, Iowa, Jan. 8, 1869. When four weeks old her mother died and she made her home with Mrs. Wm. Cartwright. When about nine years old they came to New London. She was married to Frank Portlock Nov. 10, 1881. To them four children were born. Clara Violet, who died in infancy; Elizabeth Kineta and Leonard, who survive her, together with the husband. She is also survived by three brothers, Albert Hawkins, Mt. Union; James Hawkins, Agency; Edward Hawkins, Mt. Pleasant; and four sisters, Mrs. Emma Van Dyke, Red Cloud, Nebr.; Mrs. Serepta Briggs, Walla Walla, Wash.; Mrs. Caroline Cartwright, Des Moines; Mrs. Selma Williams, Iowa City. When a mere child Mrs. Portlock was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church and was always an active worker. For many years she had taught a class of boys in the Sunday school. She was a member of the W. F. M. S. and Aid society and had been president of the former. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the M. E. church conducted by the pastor, Rev. S. T. Pool. Interment in the Burge cemetery.
