Alfred Kirkpatrick
(24 Jan 1817 - 6 Jan 1905)
A son of Samuel and Jane (Steele) Kirkpatrick, Alfred was born in Jackson County, TN, 24 Jan 1817. The family moved to Missouri and in 1841 Alfred settled in Platte County, near Bean's Lake, where he commenced the life of a farmer. The rest of the family settled in Scott County, Missouri in 1844. For a number of years, he also carried on a fish business and in due time, he entered the insurance business. He represented at different times the American Insurance Company (Chicago), Home Insurance of New York, Marine Insurance (St Louis), and finally Continental Insurance Company of New York. In addition to the pursuit of farming and insurance sales, Alfred Kirkpatrick served for several years as a Justice of the Peace for Platte County. On 10 Aug 1839, he married Mahala P. Bland who was born 17 Jun 1821, and came from Monroe County, KY.
On the 1850 U. S. Census of Marshall, Platte Co., Missouri, Alfred appears with his wife Mahala and children James, William, Marnita and Mary. Alfred is a farmer. They also have a Sarah Maynard age 14 living in their home.
On the 1870 U. S. Census of Weston, Platte Co., Missouri, Alfred appears with his wife Mahala P. and children William, Menetia, Mary E., Luella, Ada B., Margaret E. and John D.W. Three others live in the home doing domestic and farm work. Alfred is a farmer.
On the 1880 U. S. Census of Weston, Platte Co., Missouri, Alford appears with his wife Mahala and children Margaret E., and John D. W. A niece, Lydia Kirkpatrick age 15 lives with the family. Alford is a farmer.
