Dr. Lee Landis McDonald, 73 years old, died last night at his home, 1401 Felix street. A well-known dentist in St. Joseph, he was honored last fall by members of the Northwest Missouri Dental Association upon the completion of 50 years of practice. Born in Forrest City, Mo., he came from a family of doctors. His grandfather, father and two brothers were all member of the profession. Carrying on that family tradition is his son, Dr. Wilbur McDonald of this city.
Doctor McDonald attended Central College at Fayette, Mo., and the preparatory school at Ithaca, N Y. He received his D. D. S. degree in June, 1897, at the University of Pennsylvania college of dentistry. He began his practice in St. Joseph that year, with Dr. Charles Darby. In honor of his long years of service a testimonial dinner was given in September of last year in the blue room of Hotel Robideux. It was a surprise affair for Doctor McDonald. The president of the Missouri State Dental Association, Dr. John M. Clayton praised the doctor at the dinner. Doctor McDonald was a member of the St. Joseph Dental Society, of which he was president several times. He was also a member of the district dental society, president of it in 1926, and of the Missouri State and National Dental Association. He belonged to the Francis Street Methodist Church. His office was in the Kirkpatrick building and he was a resident of St. Joseph for 58 years.
He is survived by his wife, the former Lucia Packard; three sons, Lee Landis McDonald, Jr. of Pasadena, Cal., Dr.. Wilbur P. McDonald of St. Joseph and Daniel McDonald of Kansas City. A fourth son, Roland A. was killed in an airplane crash during the last war. He is also survived by one brother, Ronald A. McDonald of St. Joseph; one sister, Mrs. Mae Whiteside of Greenville, Texas and four grandchildren. The body is at the Heaton, BeGole & Bowman funeral home.
