Harl Edgar Ryder

Ryder, 69, of 620 S. 25th St., will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Central Church of Christ, with the Rev. J. Howard Kraps officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Friends may call at the Hughey-Pulley Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Thursday and until 11 a.m. Friday, when the body will be moved to the church to lie in state from noon until the funeral hour.

Mr. Ryder was a custodian at Mt. Vernon Township High School for 30 years, before retiring. He was a Christian church minister, and a school teacher before his employment at the high school. Mr. Ryder, a member of the Central Church of Christ, was an elder at the church for 40 years. In 1969, he was selected as the outstanding Christian father at the church Bible school. He was assistant teacher of the church builders Sunday school class for more than 43 years, and for a number of years, he and his wife, Pearl, sponsored many of the youth groups at the Central Church of Christ.

Mr. Ryder was born in Jefferson county on Dec. 17, 1905, the son of Frank W. and Mattie (Brown) Ryder. On Sept. 25, 1937, in Mt. Vernon, he married Pearl Kirkpatrick, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Harl E. (Eddie) Ryder Jr., Providence, R. I.; one daughter, Mrs. Eric (Dicy) Koch, Charleston; three grandsons and two granddaughters; and one sister, Mrs. Ferne Rachels, East St. Louis. Mr. Ryder was preceded in death by his parents.
