The Morning Journal, Lorain, Ohio, 11 Apr 2004: SANDUSKY -- Joseph I. Chase, 90, of Sandusky, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at the Erie County Care Facility, Huron, following a lengthy illness. He was born on Sept. 27, 1913, in Port Clinton. He owned and operated the former Hunter Motor Lincoln/Mercury Dealership in Sandusky for 25 years, retiring in 1979, and was formerly employed as a purchasing agent for Sandusky Foundry. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he sang in the choir for many years; the Sandusky Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellowship recipient; and a former member of the Plum Brook Country Club and Sandusky Yacht Club. He enjoyed building model boats and restoring antique cars and carousel horses. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Margaret Chase (nee Link); daughters Shelli Graham of Sandusky and Maurene McGrain of Boston; sons William McGrain of Georgia and Donald J. Chase of Florida; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Cora B. (nee Trevethan) Chase; sisters Sybil Fox, Thelma Held and Twila Zeller; and a sister, Lova Chase, in infancy. A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Ernie Matijasic, of Grace Episcopal Church, will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
