Leland "Lee" William Sande

Posted at findagrave.com: Leland "Lee" Sande, 81 of Bemidji died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at his home in Bemidji. Memorial Services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji, MN with Rev. William Goodman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A lunch will be held after the service at the Beltrami Electric Coop Club Rooms in Bemidji. Private Interment will be held in the spring at the Turtle Lake Township Cemetery in Bemidji, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
He was born on March 25, 1931, the son of Martin and Elizabeth (Simon) Sande on the family farm in Liberty Township. He attended school at Campbell Lake Elementary, Puposky Elementary, and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1949. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1950 and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea during the Korean War. On August 21, 1952 he married Shirley Howell in Bemidji. After completing his military service they moved to Milwaukee, WI where he served as a police officer for nine years. In 1965 the family returned to Bemidji. He was employed by the Bemidji School District #31, doing custodial and maintenance work. He retired in 1992 and drove school bus part-time for 10 years. Lee's love of country music occupied much of his spare time. He played guitar and sang with several country bands in the area, having his own band "Country Gentlemen" for about 7 years. He and three "old friends" entertained at nursing homes and for senior citizens the past few years. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by: his Wife, Shirley Sande of Bemidji, Daughters, Debra Smith of Eden Prairie, MN, LeeAnn Hill of Roseville, MN, Kristin (David) Klimisch of Pleasant Prairie, Wisc., Sons, William (Cheryl) Sande of West Bend,Wisconsin, Michael (Barbara) Sande of Buffalo, MN, 12 Grandchildren, 10 and one on the way Great-Grandchildren, Sisters, Ethelyn Eklund of Mt. Vernon, WA, Donna Hayton of Mt. Vernon, WA, Eileen (Joe) Mistic of Bemidji, MN, Sisters-in-law, Angeline Sande of Bemidji, Sheila (Dale) Page of Hines, MN Numerous nieces, nephews, and 4 very special Day Care kids. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents Melchoir and Britta Sande, Kathryn and Otto Simon, his sisters Marie Wolf, Bertella Daigle, and brother Ervel Sande.
