Norbert C. Welch

Webster Post, Webster, New York, December 6, 2000, Deceased Name: Norbert C. Welch, owned Welch's Greenhouse. He died the day before his 83rd birthday at Hill Haven Nursing Home where he had resided for the past three weeks. Mr. Welch was born Nov. 24, 1917, in Penfield to Patrick and Lillian Aman Welch. He graduated from Webster High School in 1935 and attended Niagara University. On July 6, 1940, he married Hazel Hosier at Holy Trinity Church, Webster. The couple made their home on Webster Fairport Road in Penfield until 1981 when they moved to Sugarcreek Trail, Webster. Mr. Welch began his working life as a farmer and then decided to follow in his father's footsteps as a greenhouse operator. Through the years, the Welches expanded their greenhouse facilities, along with the variety of vegetables and flowers they offered, most of which were sold retail right at their Route 250 location. Mr. Welch was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Church and was active for many years in their Holy Name Society. Known by all as a true gentleman, Mr. Welch enjoyed a good game of cards, golfing and caring for his yard. In recent years, he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Mr. Welch leaves his wife of 60 years, Hazel Welch; five children, Virginia Ludwig, Janet (Robert) Genthner, John (Elizabeth) Welch, Patricia (Roy) Bortle and Thomas (Suzanne) Welch; 11 grandchildren; sister, Connie Welch; and sister-in-law, Margaret Welch. Friends were received on Sunday at the Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, and a Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Church. Interment was at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Memorials may be directed in Mr. Welch's memory to Holy Trinity Church.
