Rodney Roy Anderson

The Salt Lake Tribune, Salt Lake City, Utah, Sunday, May 20, 2007: Gunnison, Utah--- Rodney R. Anderson, age 69, passed away May 17, 2007 at his home in Gunnison surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. Rodney was born in Ephraim, Utah on February 23, 1938. Rodney married Kathy James on June 5, 1959 in Fayette, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 5, 1976. They were blessed with one son, Ryan, and three grandchildren, Mindy, Mitchel, and Hunter. Rodney worked in the educational system for South Sanpete School District for over 42 years as a teacher, Assistant Superintendent, principal, mentor, and educator. He also served as the Justice Court Judge for Gunnison Valley for over 14 years. Community service was a top priority for Rodney as he served on Gunnison City Council for two years and was elected mayor of Gunnison from 1982-1986. He also served as the 1st counselor in the Gunnison 1st Ward bishopric for six years. Rodney enjoyed spending time in the outdoors planting and caring for his large garden, as he wanted to see every sunrise. He lived next door to his three grandchildren, who were the love of his life. He spent many hours teaching them to read, planting gardens, taking them on four-wheeler rides, and giving many life lessons. He is survived by his lovely wife, Kathy, son, Ryan (Jodi) Anderson, grandchildren, Mindy (Matt) Peterson, Mitchel Anderson, Hunter Anderson, sister, Vickie (Bill) Dalton, and many friends. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Tues., May 22, 2007 at 12:00 Noon in the Gunnison Stake Center. Friends may call at the Gunnison Stake Center Mon. evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on Tues. from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Gunnison City Cemetery.
