He was born on December 9, 1911 in Pullman, Washington to John and Amy (Carothers) Swall. Max had owned the first drive-in movie theater in Roseburg. He was a longtime car salesman before his retirement. Survivors include his mother, Amy Walters of Roseburg; brother, Jack Swall of Albuquerque, New Mexico; aunt, Ann Bird of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and cousin, Norma Larson of Tacoma, Washington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 12 at Garden Valley Retirement Center. Private entombment will be in Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
