Sacramento Bee, Sacramento, California, Thursday, June 10, 1971, Page 24, Col. 3: Youth Falls Under Truck Wheels, Dies. The coroner's office reported today that wind from a passing truck may have caused Brooks Lerda, 17, of Concord to lose his balance and fall to his death under its wheels here yesterday. Jacklyn Simoneaux, 17, of Davis, a passenger in the car, told officers that Lerda heard a flapping noise as he was driving eastbound on the Pioneer Bridge and thought he had a flat tire. Lerda pulled to the side of the roadway and found the tie was not flat, but when his car failed to restart because of overheating, he decided to change the tire anyway. Witnesses reported he was kneeling beside the wheel when a large truck driven by Lyle W. Hown, of San Jose started to pass the stalled car. Investigators said the youth then fell backward, possibly pulled by the wind, under the rear wheels of the truck. He was the son of Mrs. Freida Lerda of Concord.
