Ruth Jean Keyes

Jefferson City Post Tribune, Jefferson City, Missouri, Tuesday, June 13, 1995: Ruth Jean Fleer, 75, Eldon, died Sunday at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Columbia. She was born April 19, 1920, in Lamar, a daughter of Guy M. and Bertha Jeanette Burton Keyes. She was married May 16, 1944, in Columbia, to Melvin Fleer who survives. A resident of the Lake area since 1962, she worked as an office manager in real estate. She was active in school activities, and was an honorary life member and past local and state office-holder in the PTA. She was a 50-year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, holding the Order of the Rose. She was active in the Ha Ha Tonka Society. She was a member of the Niangua Chapter DAR, and was a senior leader, local and state officeholder in Children of the American Revolution. She was a 1994 graduate of Columbia College Lake Campus. She attended Ulman Baptist Church and was a member of Eldon United Methodist Church, and past member of Union Methodist Church, St. Louis. Other survivors include: three daughters, Theresa Fleer Godat, Ft. Wayne, Ind., Marti Fleer Farthing, Atlanta, and Mary Melissa Fleer McDowell, Brumley; one son, Mark Fred Fleer, Ft. Wayne; one sister, Kathleen Keyes Karlowski, Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Tom B. Keyes,Cincinnati; and nine grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ulman Baptist Church. The Rev. Mark Kessler will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
