Her parents were Mary Jane Ham and Isaac R. Dorrance. They had five children: Angieleex, born in 1866; George, born in 1868; Viola, born in 1869; Joel, born in 1872; and Laura, born in 1874. According to the Sedalia Daily Democrat, when Mary died on May 12, 1875, at age 29, she left four children. Angieleex preceded her in death; and Joel did not survive childhood.
Virgie Scott Mahin was born on February 9, 1867, in Lawrenceville, Lawrence County, Illinois, died on January 26, 1955, in La Monte, Pettis County, Missouri, at age 88 (87), and was buried in Knob Noster, Cemetery, Johnson County, Missouri.
Laura married Scott Mahin on March 21, 1894, in La Monte, Pettis County, Missouri. They met when he moved from Illinois to Pettis County, Missouri.
Their son, Roy Emmette Mahin, was born on August 28, 1895, in La Monte, Pettis County, Missouri, died on December 27, 1917, from disease during World War I in France, at age 22, and was brought home to Knob Noster Cemetey, Knob Noster, Johnson County, Missouri, for burial on October 17, 1920.
Roy was in the 115th Aero Sq. Sig. U.S.A. A memorial marker was placed in Knob Noster Cemetery, Johnson County, Missouri.
Their son, Guy Wilbur Mahin was born on September 21, 1897, in La Monte, Pettis County, Missouri, died on August 11, 1993, in La Monte Pettis County, Missouri, at age 95, and was buried in La Monte Cemetery, La Monte, Pettis County, Missouri.
Laura died when her two children were two and four years old.
