On the 1920 U. S. Census of East Galena, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois, John C. Herbsleb appears with his wife Theresa and son Grant age 11. John is an engine repairman.
On the 1930 U. S. Census of El Galena, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois, John Herbsleb [sic] appears with his wife Theresa and son Grant age 21. Both John and Grant work in a foundry.

He was born March 17, 1881, in Galena, the son of John and Mary Herbsleb. He married the former Mary T. Smith in 1906 at Galena. Survivors include his wife and a son, George G. of Galena. He was a charter member of the Loyal Order of Moose and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Furlong Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Tuchlinsky, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, will officiate. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
